Matt Buchanan and Scott Ellis, The Sydney Morning Herald, report
He's been Batman, a rock star and a tubercular cowboy doctor.
Now the actor Val Kilmer has decided he wants to play one of Australia's best-known performers, Andy Gibb. ''Andy's been my theme,'' Kilmer told The Diary's Bee Gee Impersonator Roundsman, Giles Hardie.
''I looked in the mirror and I said I'm going to do the Andy Gibb story!''
And why, he was predictably asked? ''The hair!''
Kilmer, in town for the Supernova comic and science fiction convention, was (hopefully) kidding, poking fun at the long locks he's grown in preparation for his next project, based on the life of American author and humorist Mark Twain. And, Kilmer hinted, Australian audiences might get a sneak preview.
''I've been writing a film script about Twain and (his long-time obsession) Mary Baker Eddy for many years now and a couple of years ago I realised I hadn't really devoted any time to creating the role of Mark Twain,'' he said.
''So I'm going to take some time off and do it on stage.''
Kilmer said he hopes to talk to Australian producers about putting it on here. And if Twain and Gibb fall through, there's even a plan C to work down under.
''I'm going to go and talk to Baz Luhrmann, who you may know, is an up and coming young director with a lot of talent,'' Kilmer said.
''I'm going to go to his set and try to sell him on The Four Musketeers.'' And yes, once again, he was kidding.
