Former Packed to the Rafters star Jessica Marais has finally confirmed the rumour Sydney has been buzzing about - she is expecting her first child.
The LA-based actress, who is currently back in Sydney visiting her actor fiance James Stewart, confirmed the news to thetelegraph.com.au today via her management.
"James Stewart and Jessica Marais announce they are expecting their first child. The couple are excited and looking forward to this next phase of their lives,'' the statement said.
The news comes just over a year after Marais announced she was quitting Rafters to pursue a career in the US where she has just shot the crimes cable series Magic City.
It's not known yet if Marais plans to return to Australia permanently to give birth to the bub which is believed to be due next May.
During a recent interview, the pair, who have no immediate plans to get married, were very vocal about their desire to have children.
"Jimmy can't wait," she told Seven's Sunday Night when asked their family plans.
"I'm happy. So long as I am living my life as a good person and have my family and Jimmy around me, I'm happy no matter what."
As for plans for their wedding, the down-to-earth couple are rumoured to be planning a low-key `secret' wedding, having always maintained theirs would be a casual affair.
"Whatever we do, I think it won't be big," Marais told Confidential recently.
"It will be more a small service for friends and family. We'll keep it casual.''
