TONI Collette is swapping the beach for the village after snapping up a terrace in Paddington.
The actress and her muso husband Dave Galafassi have forked out more than $6 million for a double-fronted five-bedroom Victorian terrace on Stewart St after renovation quotes on their Bronte home blew out by millions.
The United States Of Tara star had originally planned to renovate the Bronte Rd cottage she purchased in 2009 for $4.4 million and transform the historic weatherboard into a comfortable family home with modern conveniences for her family.
But insiders say that after renovation quotes blew out by "millions", the couple decided instead to look for a renovated property nearby.
What she has found was listed by its estate agents as a "palatial" contemporary tri-level family retreat, "stunningly reinvented to embrace light".
The home has an open-plan living-dining space, soaring ceilings and a marble kitchen with professional Gaggenau appliances.
It features a courtyard, level lawns and a rooftop terrace with city skyline views.
The couple, who returned to the US a week ago, are expected to move into the property in the new year.
It’s Collette’s third home in as many years.
In 2009 she sold in Bellevue Hill for $6.3 million after deciding the family home lacked the privacy she craved.
The new house features back laneway access to a double garage.
