Seven woos axed yellow Wiggle Sam Moran

Siobhan  Duck, The Herald Sun, reports

'DANCING with the Stars' is among the high-profile gigs being considered by dumped Wiggle Sam Moran.

The huge outpouring of love and support for Moran after his axing from The Wiggles has made him hot property, with magazines and TV networks clamouring to do a deal with him and be the first to get his side of the story.

Though Moran's management team is tight-lipped about the future, he has indicated in his Facebook video to young fans he wants to continue as a children's entertainer.

The ABC and children's pay-TV network Nickelodeon have already expressed interest in doing a show with Moran.

The multi-skilled performer is to make his directorial debut at Tropfest this year.

Seven would not comment on suggestions Moran was in negotiations to dance, but it is believed the network considers performers like him every year when it is casting the show.

Moran would be ratings gold for Seven and it would see him compete against another popular identity unceremoniously dumped - Kerri-Anne Kennerly.

Apart from a brief video statement on his Facebook page, Moran has maintained a dignified silence since being sacked on Tuesday without warning.

Tim Brooke-Hunt, ABC TV executive head of children's television, said he was open to the idea of developing a show with Moran but had not been approached.

Nickelodeon Australia general manager Ben Richardson said it would consider screening a show featuring Moran.

"Sam Moran is a talented performer, and it's evident that his fan base are keen to see him continue to entertain kids," he said.

"In terms of Nickelodeon's interest in him, at this point in time we don't use presenters for our preschool channel, Nick Jr, while on our Nickelodeon channel we have the popular comedic duo Luke and Wyatt as the faces of Nick.

"Having said that, Nickelodeon's always open to possibilities and considering ideas for new projects.

"We certainly wish Sam the best - he's made a lot of kids smile over the past five years."

Rival network Disney, which screens Wiggle and Learn, featuring Moran while he was still the yellow Wiggle, said it had not had talks with him and wouldn't for the "forseeable future".

Wiggles fans were shocked to learn Moran, a father of one and loyal employee of The Wiggles for 10 years, had been forced to hand back his yellow skivvy to Greg Page.

Page left the group five years ago because of ill health and was paid a reported $20 million for his share in the children's entertainment empire.

Page denies returning to the group because of financial problems. Despite being one of the founding members of the group, Page will not return to the fold on equal footing.

Like Moran, Page will be a "salaried Wiggle".
