Willem Dafoe thriller The Hunter is in line to scoop the pool at the inaugural Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards with a leading 14 nominations, including best film and director.
Daniel Nettheim’s debut is also up for best adapted screenplay, cinematography, sound, original music score, production design, costume design and visual effects.
Dafoe and his co-stars Frances O’Connor, Sam Neill and Morgana Davies all received acting nods.
Up against The Hunter for best film is Red Dog, The Eye Of The Storm, Mad Bastards, Snowtown and Oranges And Sunshine.
The Eye Of The Storm, a big screen adaptation of Patrick White's novel, earned 12 nominations, of which six are in the acting categories.
True crime story Snowtown received 10 nominations including best direction for Justin Kurzel, cinematography, editing and original music score. Kurzel’s brother Jed has already been honoured for the film's score at the Screen Music Awards.
Audience favourite Red Dog has been honoured with eight nominations, including best direction and adapted screenplay, Oranges and Sunshine is up for seven awards, while Mad Bastards is up for five.
In the television categories, Foxtel's Cloudstreet and the ABC's The Slap lead with eight nominations apiece.
Both will compete against Paper Giants and Sisters Of War for the best telefeature, miniseries or short run series prize.
The ABC dominates the best TV comedy series category, with At Home With Julia, Laid and Twentysomething all being recognised.
East West 101, Offspring, Rake and Spirited have been nominated for best TV drama series.
The AACTA Awards replace the AFI Awards, with the ceremony to take place in January to coincide with the international awards season, which culminates with the Oscars in late February.
