Playing Kerry Packer is bad for your health, not to mention your love life. Actor Lachy Hulme has packed on the kilos.
Hulme said his knees were wrecked after stacking on weight to play the media magnate in Channel 9's miniseries, Howzat! The Kerry Packer Story.
The two-part series, which will screen in the weeks after the Olympics, is about Packer's role in creating World Series Cricket.
The actor - who also had to shave his head and bleach his eyebrows for the role - said he went into hiding during the six-week shoot because he felt so fat and unattractive.
He's now preparing to lose all the weight with a personal trainer
"Let's be honest, Kerry wasn't the handsomest fellow in the world," he said.
Hulme, who also piled on weight to play Todd Russell in the telemovie about the Beaconsfield mine disaster by eating junk food, said he tried to take a more health-conscious approach to his latest fattening up.
"(But) I also ate a lot of Kerry's favourite food, which was McDonald's quarter pounders. I can't complain, I was basically living out my childhood dreams (of) getting paid to eat McDonald's."
