The Daily Telegraph reports
An abandoned hospital in western Sydney will be converted into the legendary 1960s rockstar hang-out, the Chevron-Hilton, as part of new TV series Love Child, starring Jessica Marais.
Confidential can reveal Parramatta City Council has given the greenlight to producers to fit out the historic O'Connell St building to resemble the Silver Spade Room of the former landmark Potts Point hotel.
The eight-episode Channel 9 drama, which also stars Jonathan LaPaglia, will focus on the sexual revolution of 1960s Sydney.
The filming of Love Child in Parramatta has led to calls from NSW Business Chamber Western Sydney director David Borger for the government to set up a permanent film studio in the area. Love Child is among several projects to have been shot in part or entirely in Parramatta.
Scenes of ABC series Crownies were also filmed around the Parramatta Justice Precinct.
And Hugh Jackman's The Wolverine turned George and Smith Sts into a Japanese streetscape to film for the next instalment of the franchise.
The old Parramatta jail has also become a popular film set since it was closed in 2011, with scenes shot for Home And Away and Underbelly at the historic complex.
The old jail was also used in the recently completed film The Convict, which focuses on the experiences of being an inmate.
"Parramatta should have a permanent film studio," Mr Borger said.
"It's a cheaper location to film outdoors, less red tape than Sydney CBD, land costs less than the CBD, there are a great variety of urban, suburban and rural backdrops all available in a contained and easily accessible centre."
