The Herald Sun reports
Logies newbie James Mason admits he is surprised but relieved the first gay kiss on Neighbours hasn't ruffled more feathers.
Mason, who plays Chris Pappas on the long-running soap, shared a smooch with on-screen boyfriend Aidan Foster (Bob Morley) earlier this week.
The kiss was the first in the drama's 27-year history and Mason said it was a "step in the right direction" that viewers - and his girlfriend - had supported.
"At the moment, what we watch on television is not really an accurate reflection of how society works," he said. "It's been recently that Neighbours has introduced the gay characters and now we've introduced the Indian family as well. Slowly we're trying to introduce a bit of change."
Mason said producers would not be trying to up the raunch in future for the sake of headlines. "This is just my job. I love my role and I'm grateful to have the chance to do something no one in Australia has done before," he said.
Sunday will be the first Logies, for Mason, who is nominated for most popular new male talent. He had his final suit fitting at Dom Bagnato's Melbourne Central store yesterday and said attending was a dream come true.
