The Daily Telegraph reports
Actor Geoffrey Rush will turn film critic as a judge at this year's Tropfest competition.
The newly named Australian Of The Year will also talk at the festival's filmmaker symposium, Tropfest Roughcut.
Rush says he is looking forward to meeting with emerging filmmakers during the discussion day.
"Please join this sexagenarian for a cinematic chat on known knowns, known unknowns, and unknown unknowns... it's a Q and A and I'd love to hear from you," Rush said in a statement.
Love And Other Drugs producer Charles Randolph will open the inaugural Tropfest Roughcut with a keynote speech direct from New York.
Australian film editor Jason Ballantine, Kieran Darcy-Smith - whose film Wish You Were Here opened the Sundance Film Festival - and international composer Lisa Gerrard will also present.
Tropfest Roughcut takes place in Sydney on Saturday, February 17, the day before the main Tropfest competition on the Domain.
