Naomi Watts – Caught in Flight
Scott Ellis, The Sydney Morning Herald,
reports
Australian actress Naomi Watts has been caught in character as Princess
Diana by photographers during production for her new movie, Caught in Flight.
Several photos of Watts as ''the People's Princess'' have appeared online as the British press demonstrate a strong understanding of irony by staking out the set for the film, which recounts the last two years of Diana's life, including her death in a 1997 Paris car crash pursued by paparazzi on scooters.
Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel, who helmed the Hitler biopic (and meme playground) Downfall, the film is said to focus on a secret relationship between the princess and heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan, played by Lost's Naveen Andrews, as well as her time with Dodi Fayed.
Watts, whose hair is styled to the famous blonde bob and is seen mimicking the Princess's shy smile in some shots, wears a long, silver ballgown, pearl earrings and a diamond necklace similar to Diana's in some photos, and a white blouse and navy blazer in others.
The Oscar-nominated actress, who is also expected to play Marilyn Monroe in Andrew Dominik's film Blonde, described Diana as ''an incredible woman'' in a statement earlier this year, admitting she was reluctant to take on a role subject to such scrutiny.
''It's very scary and I kind of wanted to say no but I couldn't,'' she said.
