Madonna has once again snubbed her Australian fans after scrapping plans to tour next year.

The singer's concert promoter Live Nation confirmed the cancellation today, ruling out extra dates on her MDNA world tour.

"Madonna's tour will end in South America in December as planned. That's all we can say," a spokesperson said.

Madonna was due to confirm summer dates earlier this month but delayed the announcement until after the Olympics.

Stadiums had reportedly been booked in Sydney and Melbourne for her first Australian tour since 1993.

The 53-year-old star is currently on tour in Europe where some of her shows have been met with controversy. She flashed a nipple to a largely Islamic audience in Istanbul and displayed a Nazi swastika in Paris.

Critics have claimed ticket prices are too high despite several of the concerts on her 87-date world tour selling out in record time.

Madonna offered words of advice to anyone quibbling over the ticket price - but it no longer applies to Aussie fans.

"People spend $300 on crazy things all the time, things like handbags," she told Newsweek. "So work all year, scrape the money together and come to my show. I'm worth it."

After a 20-year wait, Madonna's long-suffering Aussie fans will finally be rewarded this week.

The queen of pop will announce the highly anticipated Sydney concert dates for her MDNA world tour, due to arrive in Australia in January.

She last played here in November, 1993, performing three shows at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Back then, Peter Andre was her local tour support.

Promoted by Live Nation Entertainment, Madonna kicked off the stadium tour in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv on May 31 with dates announced up until December 22 in Cordoba, Argentina.

After a Christmas and New Year's break, the 53-year-old Material Girl is then expected to bring the show Down Under.

Madonna never fails to shock and, not surprisingly, her current tour has come with its share of controversy. Most notably, she exposed one of her breasts during a performance in Istanbul.

She's also been criticised for charging too much - tickets range from $45 to $600.

"Start saving your pennies now. People spend $300 on crazy things all the time, things like handbags," Madonna responded in an interview earlier this year.

"So work all year, scrape the money together and come to my show. I'm worth it."

Kylie Minogue may have ended the public lovefest between herself and Madonna.

Minogue slated the 53-year-old's cheerleader costume after being egged on by US television host Joan Rivers.

She was a guest on Rivers' Fashion Police in LA last week, which aired here on E! on Saturday.

When shown a photo of Madonna in concert, Rivers asked Minogue - who has also been caned for dressing young - for her opinion.

"No. Just no," Minogue said.

That was nothing compared with Rivers, who said of Madonna's new look: "Madonna, stop it already, you're 108 ... Madonna as a cheerleader - what school does she go to? Our Lady of Osteoporosis? She looks like she flunked 10th grade 48 times."

Minogue was also asked about Madonna flashing her nipple on stage in Rome.

"Was she caught up in the moment, was it premeditated, who knows?" Minogue said. "I think it's got people more perplexed than excited by it."

Rivers also asked Minogue about the constant comparisons and competition between herself and Madonna, describing them as "the two great pop divas".

"Is that because we're the two oldest ones?," Minogue joked.

"Competition, I don't know. But I grew up such a fan of her. I don't even care how we're in the same sentence, it's quite good for me."

Rivers left Minogue speechless when she referred to the pop star's ex, Olivier Martinez, now dating film star Halle Berry.

The TV show at least ended the feud between the Osbourne family and the Minogue sisters. Kelly Osbourne fawned over Kylie on the show - she's previously slated Kylie's sister Dannii.

Madonna will tour Australia next year - her first show here in 20 years.

Fresh from blowing them away at Super Bowl, the superstar is a confirmed starter for Down Under in 2013, sending local fans into a frenzy.

Promoter Live Nation said Madonna's world tour would start in Tel Aviv on May 29 and end in Australia early next year. She will perform 90 concerts around the globe - her longest tour to date.

Her previous four world tours have all bypassed Australia.

After axing plans for Australia in 2009, manager Guy Oseary told angry fans: "Madonna really needs to go to Australia. We are long overdue for a trip Down Under and apologise for that. It will happen."

Live Nation chief Arthur Fogel told Billboard: "Of the shows we're doing, I'd say 25 to 30 per cent will be markets she's never played before. There's still a few left.

"We'll get to these markets where she's never been, some exciting new places, and get back to Australia after too long a time."

The Australian dates are expected to be announced shortly - with Madonna likely to play in a mix of stadiums and outdoor venues.

While ticket prices are still being negotiated, seats for some of the American shows, which go on sale next week, range from $45 to $355.

As with most superstars, her tours have more expensive VIP options for hardcore fans to be closer to the stage.

Madonna performed at the MCG in 1993.

Her previous tour, 2008-09's Sticky & Sweet, grossed more than $400 million - the highest for a solo act and the third most successful tour of all time.

The new tour takes Madonna to Europe from May to August, North America from August to November, followed by a Christmas-new year break, then Australia.

Madonna's new album MDNA will be released on March 26.

MADONNA'S latest directorial offering, W.E. starring Abbie Cornish, has received awful reviews and a possible answer as to why came across our desks.

Madonna had the Hunter Valley born Cornish wear her old wedding rings to both Sean Penn and Guy Ritchie during the filming.

Talk about an ominous start.

Cornish told In Style magazine: "Every morning she'd bring them in and I'd put them on. It was nice to have that ritual.

"She would bring a box of her own jewellery and handpick stuff for me to wear. Almost every piece I wear in this film was hers. Cartier and Bulgari earrings, necklaces, bracelets. She has an incredible collection."

In the movie Cornish plays a woman obsessed with the love affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson.
