Chris Hemsworth says he understands his brother Liam's life in the spotlight

Chris Hemsworth says he has his brother Liam's back as he deals with his breakup from singer Miley Cyrus.

The Aussie star said in an interview with News Corp Australia this morning he understands what his younger sibling is going through in dealing with the spotlight after the two became famous around the same time.

Chris became an instant superstar in 2011 playing superhero Thor, which made more than $450 million at the box office, and Liam followed less than a year later when the Hunger Games raked in $700 million worldwide.

"The two of us started going through this at the same time and if there is someone who has had a similar experience - especially if it's your brother - and then that's a real bonus," said Chris, currently starring as hard-living racing champion James Hunt in the F1 movie, Rush.

"You can also call each other's bluff a bit. If one starts to drift off in the wrong direction then you don't need to say 'I don't know what you are talking about' because I understand that as well. We have both been through it. There is a way of staying grounded - it's all about your friends and family and we have been lucky to have had that."

Liam attended the Toronto and London premieres of Rush earlier in the month in the aftermath of his then-fiance Cyrus's controversial performance at the VMA Awards.

The pair this week confirmed the end of their three-year relationship which began when they met on the set of the 2009 drama The Last Song.

Liam was recently seen kissing rumoured new flame Eiza Gonzalez, but Chris declined to comment on his brother's state of mind post-breakup.

"I avoid trying to comment on his personal details because it can get a bit misconstrued," he said. "So you will have to ask him."

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have confirmed they have officially split.

Representatives for both Cyrus, 20, and Hemsworth, 23, confirmed today that the pair, who got engaged in May 2012, have called things off, the New York Post reports.

The Post reported last week that Hemsworth was seen kissing a brunette at the Toronto Film Festival. Witnesses saw him on a hotel rooftop, "locking lips with a random brunette". Later, "they left together".

Cyrus and Hemsworth, who got together on the set of 2010 movie The Last Song have had a rocky year, first deciding to postpone their wedding.

More recently, the couple have been barely seen together, and the Wrecking Ball singer's controversial MTV VMA performance with Robin Thicke in August was said to be a cause of more tension.

Her VMA performance was widely panned as tacky on social media with many saying her twerking against Thicke's crotch and lewd gestures went too far.

And over the weekend, Cyrus stopped following Hemsworth on Twitter.

Cyrus also recently appeared on German TV show Schlagg Den Raab where she spanked a twerking dwarf.

Her antics haven't gone unnoticed with Vogue editor Anna Wintour dropping her from the magazine's December issue over her "distasteful" VMA performance.

The dramatic departure from her clean-cut image seems to have caused issues closer to home for the young star.

"Liam really does care about Miley, but her racy new look and sort of ghetto attitude isn’t exactly what he signed up for," an unnamed friend of Hemsworth said last month.

The split comes as the singer's new video clip, which shows her getting up close and personal with a sledge hammer and also swinging naked on a large wrecking ball, continues to cause a stir.

Fans of the highly anticipated thriller Paranoia starring Aussie Liam Hemsworth and Harrison Ford were given a sneak peek today ahead of its August cinema debut.

The high-stakes thriller based on the novel by Joseph Finder boasts an impressive cast that also includes Gary Oldman and Amber Heard.

Hemsworth, who recently split from Miley Cyrus, plays Adam Cassidy, a charming, blue-collar guy trying to get ahead in his entry-level job at Wyatt Telecom.

He bends the rules a little but it’s not long before he starts breaking the law.

Ruthless CEO Nicholas Wyatt, played by Gary Oldman, agrees not to turn Cassidy in, on one condition: Cassidy must agree to infiltrate the competition as a corporate spy.

In this billion dollar power play, Cassidy spies on Wyatt’s old mentor, Jack Goddard (Harrison Ford).

The film releases nationally on August 15.

The Hunger Games totally devoured the competition at the People's Choice Awards, emerging with five trophies - including one for Australian Liam Hemsworth - whose brother Chris was also recognised.

Katy Perry won three awards at Wednesday night's ceremony in Los Angeles, at which fans selected the winners in categories spanning music, movies and television.

Hunger Games was named favourite movie, action movie and movie franchise, and stars Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson had fans' favourite on-screen chemistry.

Lawrence also won favourite movie actress and "face of heroism".

Perry was the fans' favourite female artist and pop artist. Her video for Part of Me also won.

Chris Hemsworth was voted the fans' favourite action movie star for his role as Thor in The Avengers.

Sandra Bullock picked up the show's first favourite humanitarian award for her efforts in New Orleans.

Actress Kaley Cuoco hosted the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre, where performers included Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys.

Could Liam Hemsworth have followed his big brother Chris's example and eloped with fiancee Miley Cyrus?

That is the talk circulating tinseltown at present after the newly made-over Cyrus Tweeted a Christmas photo purportedly showing the pair wearing wedding rings.

It's been two years to the day since Thor actor Chris secretly wed his Spanish bride, Fast Five actress Elsa Pataky, in a quiet ceremony in Indonesia.

Yesterday bloggers were quick to point out that in her social media shots, Cyrus, who has become a guest star on Two & A Half Men this year, appears to have an extra white gold band next to her engagement ring.

Hemsworth, too, is wearing a dark band on the appropriate finger.

Adding fuel to the speculation, the 20-year-old tween idol recently said on Ellen that all she cares about on her wedding day is the groom himself.

"I don't want to be doing too much and be crazy and forget about the moment of it all," she said on the show.

"That moment when he first gets to see me in my dress and everything all together - (that) has to be perfect. It has to be like a soundtrack in a movie.

"That's the one day where that movie crap is real. That romance. It's rare that people just stop to really look the person in the eye and know that this is your life together."

There was no comment from either party yesterday.

Despite the constant "relationship on the rocks" rumours, little doubt has been left over Liam Hemsworth's feelings for fiancee Miley Cyrus, after the Aussie actor yesterday made public a copycat tatt he got in honour of his bride-to-be.

In July Cyrus, 19, had a quote from former US president Theodore Roosevelt inked on her forearm.

The text says: "so that his place shall never be with these cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat."

Now Hemsworth has the sentence that prefaces Cyrus's.His says: "If he fails, at least fails while daring greatly".

The speech, Citizens In A Republic, is about defying the critics and striving to make a difference.

It's the second time the couple have opted for matching stamps, having both got little skulls on their ankles.

Hemsworth is clearly fond of inspirational mottos. At the top of his Twitter page is the mantra: "The probability of failing scares me, but the thrill of the jump is well worth the risk."

Despite their bold declarations of affection for one another, the pair say they are in no rush to walk down the aisle.

For the films' producer(s), director, writer, and five top-billed actors (and we began with a list of 422 names), we awarded two points each per $1 million earned at the Australian box office; one point for each $1 million earned elsewhere in the world (global box office was the telling factor); plus points were also given for major award wins (including Oscars, BAFTAs, AACTAs), major festival appearance and/or prizes (including the Sydney, Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, Venice and Toronto festivals), and magazine covers (sampled 2011-2012 from Who, New Weekly, Empire, FilmInk and so on). Voice animation work also counted.

We asked Sydney photo agencies, including Jamie Fawcett's PhotoNews, to rate our top 40 (hello, Naomi Watts). We awarded bonus points to internationally known ''names'' who returned home (good on you, Guy Pearce) and deducted points for Golden Raspberry Award mentions (sorry, Nicole).

Is Liam Hemsworth hungering for a more adult relationship - one that doesn't involve social media?

Well, according to Star Magazine, via Mail Online, the Australian star is tired of his fiance Miley Cyrus's habit of taking to Twitter every time they have an argument.

A source told the magazine: "He think she's acting like an immature schoolgirl, and he wants her to get off Twitter completely."

The latest alleged blow-up between the pair centres on a tweet Cyrus posted after they had an argument.

"Why do I torture myself and what ps I love you. ahhhhhh. I have got to pull it together."

Cyrus caused a stir earlier this month when she told her fans: "Ever feel like you want just ... something more. Not sure what exactly ... passion perhaps?"

Soon after she tweeted: "No there is not trouble in paradise ... just thoughts."

A source told Star that Hemsworth had taken Cyrus's latest tweet as a "huge insult". "She tried to pass it off like it had nothing to do with him, but it totally affected him, no matter what she tries to say," the source said.

"She was trying to get his attention, but she just ended up making him pull away from her more."

Mind you, Cyrus is only 19 - isn't that kind of behaviour par for the course?

Fifty shades of Hemsworth sibling rivalry as brothers face off over part

Talk about sibling rivalry. The super-hot Hemsworth brothers, Chris and Liam, are auditioning against each other for the same movie.

No strangers to competing with one another in the cut-throat hustle and bustle of Hollywood, the siblings battled for the part of Thor, with director Kenneth Brannagh choosing elder Chris.

Now they have their eyes set on the biggest film adaptation of a book series since The Hunger Games - Fifty Shades Of Grey.

Stateside sources say 29-year-old Chris has emerged as a favourite for lead character, billionaire-philanthropist Christian Grey, along with Ryan Gosling, Man of Steel's Henry Cavill and White Collar's Matt Bomer.

Liam - AKA Mr Miley Cyrus - is said to have originally put his hand up for the part, but is now firming well for the role of Elliot, Grey's brother in the racy E. L. James tome.

She’s found a "soul mate" in young Aussie fiance Liam Hemsworth, but for Miley Cyrus the road to "I do" was no fairytale.

In an interview with US marie claire released yesterday, the 19-year-old pop star said her three-year courtship with the Hunger Games actor had plenty of ups and downs, which ultimately brought them closer together."Liam and I have a really good relationship," she told the magazine.

"It took breaking up once or twice because I was young and immature and wanted to do things I hadn't yet gotten to do.

"At some point you realise these people you're hanging out with are your 'party friends'; they're not going to give a shit about you in 10 years. Then you remember who you really want around you.

"I don't really care about the wedding or the piece of paper as much as the promise we've made to each other."Despite a reputation for being something of a nightclub princess - which wasn't exactly helped by that bong video - Cyrus insists she's no Hollywood party girl and that she and Hemsworth prefer staying in for an evening at her LA mansion.

"I am super-antisocial and such a homebody," she said.

"But everything I need is here. My parents are two doors down, I have a Pilates studio and a recording studio and Liam can watch and edit his movies in the screening area."

Speaking of Hemsworth, film industry scuttlebutt yesterday said the former Neighbours star beat out Twilight muscle man Taylor Lautner to his role in action blockbuster The Expendables 2, which is tipped to be the best part of Hemsworth's career to date.

Singer Miley Cyrus is reportedly keen to start a family with fiance Liam Hemsworth as soon as possible.

A month after announcing that she is engaged to the Hunger Games star, 22, bride-to-be Cyrus, 19, is not as worried about wedding planning as much as she is about family planning, Us Weekly reports. "Miley and Liam really want to have a baby quickly," a Cyrus family source told the magazine.

The pair have been together since filming The Last Song together in 2009.

Hemsworth is believed to be especially keen to start a family since his older brother Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky, welcomed their daughter India in May.

Cyrus and Hemsworth already have five dogs together and are likely to also receive the support of both their families when they expand their crew to include a baby.

"They are both mature and ready for this," says a source of the couple told Us Weekly. "Miley is 19 going on 40."

The Aussie actor was snapped in New York leaping out of a souped up car and throwing himself onto a heavy bruiser.

Hemsworth threw punches and rolled through the garbage as he shot an intense fight scene for his latest movie, Empire State.

During a break in filming he could be seen glued to a red iPhone.

The Hunger Games star is away from his fiancee Miley Cyrus and the distance between them must be getting to him as he could be seen puffing on a cigarette soon afterwards.

Empire State, which has been filming in Queens and New Orleans, tells the story of two childhood friends who plan to rob an armoured car depository, and the NYPD officer who stands in their way.

It also stars Dwayne Johnson, Emma Roberts and Nikki Reed.

Meanwhile it has been reported that Cyrus may be in talks to replace Jennifer Lopez as a judge on American Idol.

It was the Australian film industry's night to shine in Los Angeles, so where were some of our most stellar stars? Were they having a rare night in, washing their hair?

The Australians In Film 8th Annual Breakthrough Awards on Wednesday, and the announcement of the Heath Ledger Scholarship winner at the InterContinental Hotel's Grand Salon Ballroom, attracted Miley Cyrus and her fiance Liam Hemsworth, Hollywood powerbroker Harvey Weinstein, Natalie Imbruglia and even the notoriously icy Abbie Cornish, who was both sweet and accommodating (who knew?).

However with the AIF boasting an ambassadors list which pretty much includes every famous A-list Aussie heavyweight including

Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett and Baz Luhrmann, you would have thought that some of them might have felt tempted to come along and support the event.

And not all of them were busy shooting movies.

Even the choice of Renee Bargh, an Aussie TV reporter working on US show Extra, as the night's Master of Ceremonies, was a strange option for the glittering film event.

Despite the snub by some of the big name stars, it was still a fantastic night dominated by young lovebirds, Australian Hunger Games star Hemsworth and Cyrus.

In fact the teenage American singer showed all the signs of being the daughter-in-law that Australia will be happy to adopt.

Wearing a black, short Zimmermann dress, so snug that one guest marvelled that it fitted her like a sausage skin, Cyrus arrived proudly on the arm of Hemsworth and was accessible to even the most fringe reporter on the red carpet.

But she stopped short of saying when and where the couple plan to get married.

Hopefully not too soon, after all she is only 19 - not even old enough to legally drink in the US.

Meanwhile, her fiance Hemsworth, John Polson, Yvonne Strahovski and Weinstein were honoured at the awards, while the Heath Ledger Scholarship went to Underbelly Razor star, Anna McGahan.

The late Ledger's rebellious, talented and generous spirit was definitely in the room. Even his good friend Cornish was positively bouyant on the night.

The Dior clad-actress, who has clearly not succumbed to Hollywood's size 0 fetish, presented an award to Weinstein (the American was the only person on the night to receive a standing ovation).

Proving he has a suitably laconic sense of humour, Weinstein told the story of dating a famous, but alas unnamed Australian model, whose father asked him whether he should invest $500,000 in a yet-to-be-made film which became Crocodile Dundee. Weinstein advised against it and the relationship did not go the distance of the film's overwhelming success.

Another highlight of the night was the auction. On offer were a series of framed photographs by Rupert Thorpe featuring Ledger and Rose Byrne.

Cyrus and Hemsworth had fun bidding against each other, with the Hannah Montana star finally scoring the limited edition snaps for $22,000.

Now her name will be added to a list of benefactors at a special Heath Ledger exhibition at the Western Australian Museum.

Newly-engaged Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth may be blissfully in love, but that didn't stop them going head-to-head in a bidding war in a charity auction.

The couple stepped out together in Hollywood for the first time since Hemsworth's proposal on Wednesday night as The Hunger Games star received the Breakthrough Award at the Australians in Film Awards in California.

But they were at odds later in the evening at a charity auction over a collection of limited edition fine art photographs of Heath Ledger.

The late actor appears with Australian actress Rose Byrne in the series, which is signed and numbered by photographer Rupert Thorpe.

The pictures, taken shortly after Ledger had completed work in Two Hands, were shot during a trip to Las Vegas back in 1999.

After a furious flurry of bids back and forth, Cyrus eventually won the day, pipping her fiance with a massive final bid of $22,000 and declaring: "I win, I'm done."

The series of seven fine art prints are to be donated in Cyrus's name to an upcoming Heath Ledger exhibition at the Western Australia Museum.

Ledger died in 2008 from an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.

He is survived by his daughter Matilda, 6, from his relationship with actress Michelle Williams.

Teresa Palmer thinks fellow Australian Liam Hemsworth is the most perfect male co-star.

Palmer, 26, and Hemsworth, who are co-stars in the upcoming romantic war drama AWOL, locked lips while filming the movie.

"I did get to kiss Liam,'' Palmer told E! Online. "Liam is lovely. He's the most perfect male co-star.''

Palmer enjoyed creating such a vivid on-screen love story with Hemsworth.

"It's very much a (The) Notebook style movie,'' Palmer said. "I try desperately not to fall in love with a soldier who's gone AWOL from the Vietnam War but that soldier is Liam Hemsworth! It's sort of a bittersweet romance between them. It's heartbreaking and beautiful.''

Last year, Palmer and actor Zac Efron dated briefly following the actor's split from actress Vanessa Hudgens.

Hemsworth and girlfriend Miley Cyrus have dated on and off for three years and she recently revealed about how proud she is of his success. The pair were rumoured to be engaged, but Cyrus recently denied the rumours.

Filming for AWOL has been completed.

It’s been a while coming but judging from the size of the crowds currently mobbing Liam Hemsworth, the actor has finally arrived.

A pretty girlfriend can apparently only do so much for one's profile and possibly even hamper success, as in the case of Hemsworth's gal Miley Cyrus.

During a publicity tour of the US, Hemsworth has increasingly been stopping traffic this week.

Yesterday he acknowledged the change of public opinion towards him, saying that fans have started throwing themselves at him.

"I've had a bunch of marriage proposals," he told the USA's ABC. "I think I actually said yes to a few by accident. Just nerves. I was like, 'Yeah, I will. I will. I don't know you, but I'll do it'. So it's been a little funny."

Critics are already hailing the movie as the year's top action film.

Hemsworth is described in the US as a "22-year-old Australian heartthrob".
