Angelina Jolie didn't waste a moment of her first full day in Sydney yesterday, starting with an early morning visit to the zoo.

The Hollywood superstar took her six children - Maddox, 12, Pax, 10, Zahara, 8, Shiloh, 7 and twins Vivienne and Knox, 5 - to Taronga Zoo before retiring to the Intercontinental Hotel for a rest. They then set out for some more sightseeing mid-afternoon, taking a boat across the harbour to Luna Park.

Jolie, 38, will spend the next four months based out of Sydney as she films her directorial effort, Unbroken, at Fox Studios and Village Roadshow on the Gold Coast.

She and her family will relocate over the next few days to a private home in Vaucluse.

Jolie and her brood arrived in Sydney early Friday morning on a Qantas flight from LA. Partner Brad Pitt is expected to visit during breaks in filming action drama Fury in the UK.

Unbroken is a story about Olympic track star Louis Zamperini, who crash-landed his fighter plane in the Pacific Ocean in 1943.

Australian extras are currently being cast, with British, Irish and American actors Jack O'Connell, Domhnall Gleeson and Finn Wittrock in the lead roles.

Brad Pitt has scotched any suggestion he will be filming in Australia for David Fincher's 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea.

But the Hollywood superstar said he will be making a movie here soon, especially if the Australian government provides the right incentive. "I'm coming for something," Pitt told Confidential.

"We are migratory workers, we go where it takes it and it is just not out of the question. We tend to go where the rebates are and where you can film the cheapest and a lot of stuff is going to the UK right now, that is how the business works."

Pitt spoke as he walked the red carpet at Sydney's The Star complex to promote his new film World War Z, an apocalyptic action blockbuster.

Despite months of rumours, Pitt said he would not be starring in 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, slated to film on the Gold Coast this year.

"David Fincher is developing that and it's really good," he said. "I've seen the visuals but that's not me. I'm not coming for that."

Pitt's wife Angelina Jolie bravely revealed last month she'd undergone treatment for breast cancer, including an operation for a double mastectomy. Jolie stayed home in the US but Pitt is travelling with son Pax, flying into Sydney on a private jet yesterday morning with the film's director Marc Forster.

Pitt said the film fuses action sequences and intimate moments as his character Gerry Lane travels the world searching for an answer to a zombie pandemic.

"It is fun, that is what we set out to make and not give you a break until the movie is over," Pitt said.

"At the same time it is grounded in the same way that some filmgoers aren't accustomed to and that is the family issue. It becomes very intimate. It is something that is so global and then you juxtapose it with these little intimate moments and that is why it works really well."

He added that World War Z tapped into the universal fear of an apocalyptic crisis. Among the celebrities walking the red carpet were Nikki Phillips, Gigi Edgeley, Reece Mastin, Rhiannon Fish and Samantha Armytage.

Here’s something that is sure to reinvigorate Sydney’s tame red carpet scene: Brad Pitt is coming to town.

It was confirmed this afternoon that Mr Angelina Jolie will arrive in the Harbour City in less than a month for the premiere of his new film, apocalyptic action horror World War Z.

“Fandemonium” is expected to erupt when the movie star walks the ruby rug on Sunday June 9, alongside the $125 million epic's director Marc Forster and producer Dede Gardner.

However a location for the event has not yet been named.

It’s also not known whether Pitt will bring his wife and six children for the trip.

Originally a novel, World War Z has been a long time coming for Pitt.

The actor fought hard for the rights to the book in a bidding war against Leonardo DiCaprio’s production Appian Way in 2007.

Pitt’s own company, Plan B Entertainment, eventually won.

Pre-production started in 2011.

The film will be released in Australia on June 20.

Just as Sydneysiders recover from the surplus of celebrity spottings throughout the filming of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, a new set of A-listers is rumoured to be headed to town.

Film industry sources say Brad Pitt is in serious negotiations to head to the Harbour City with talk that the anticipated remake of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea will be filmed next year at Fox Studios.

Titled 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea: Captain Nemo and helmed by Oscar-nominated director David Fincher (The Social Network), the film has been in development at Disney for some time and it's understood production may finally get a green-light in early 2013.

While Pitt is yet to sign for the role, the Fight Club star is reportedly close to a deal and it's rumoured he may spend several months in Sydney - most likely with partner Angelina Jolie and their six children.

Pitt is slated for the role of Ned Land in the flick - the role played by Kirk Douglas in the 1954 version of the movie based on Jules Verne's book.

Land is described as "a sailor and talented hand at the harpoon" and is expected to form a key part of the new movie, alongside whoever agrees to star as Captain Nemo.

Contacted this week, Pitt's US reps didn't get back to us on the actor's plans to head Down Under. But a local film source said the news was the talk of Sydney's movie industry.

"Having Brad in town will be huge, as will having Fincher here shooting such an epic remake," a well-placed film spy said.

Those linked to the Nemo role include Will Smith and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
