AWARD-winning Aussie director Robert Connolly is writing the script for a Channel 10 telemovie based on the teenage years of celebrity computer hacker Julian Assange.
Underground will be based on the novel of the same name.
Connolly said he was astonished by Melbourne's 1980s "hacking community".
"It was an incredible time and ... Melbourne was pretty much the world's centre for computer hacking."
The Balibo director said he was approached to work on the Melbourne-based drama after directing episodes of successful Aunty series The Slap. "It feels like a golden era of television again and it is great to be a part of it."
