Liam Hemsworth grabs one of five awards for Hunger Games at People's Choice Awards

The Hunger Games totally devoured the competition at the People's Choice Awards, emerging with five trophies - including one for Australian Liam Hemsworth - whose brother Chris was also recognised.

Katy Perry won three awards at Wednesday night's ceremony in Los Angeles, at which fans selected the winners in categories spanning music, movies and television.

Hunger Games was named favourite movie, action movie and movie franchise, and stars Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson had fans' favourite on-screen chemistry.

Lawrence also won favourite movie actress and "face of heroism".

Perry was the fans' favourite female artist and pop artist. Her video for Part of Me also won.

Chris Hemsworth was voted the fans' favourite action movie star for his role as Thor in The Avengers.

Sandra Bullock picked up the show's first favourite humanitarian award for her efforts in New Orleans.

Actress Kaley Cuoco hosted the ceremony at the Nokia Theatre, where performers included Christina Aguilera, Jason Aldean and Alicia Keys.
