The Herald Sun reports
Nicole Kidman stepped back in time with Academy Award winner Colin Firth yesterday as filming started on The Railway Man.
Kidman braved chilly conditions as the cameras started rolling in the Scottish city of Perth.
Kidman plays Patricia "Patti" Wallace, the wife of WWII veteran Eric Lomax, who wrote the memoir on which the film is based.
The story follows Lomax's time as a prisoner of war, building the Burma Railway, and coming to terms with the scars of war.
Production will move to Thailand in May before coming to Australia in early June.
