British actor Hugh Grant will be in Australia next month to promote his new film The Pirates! Band of Misfits.

Grant, the former long-term boyfriend of Shane Warne’s fiancé Elizabeth Hurley and who became a father to a baby girl delivered by Chinese woman Tinglan Hong last year, will walk the red carpet for The Pirates! Band of Misfits’ Australian premiere in Sydney in April 1.

Grant - a scratch golfer - voices the pirate captain in the animated film from the creators of Chicken Run and Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Ware Rabbit.

It is Grant’s first animated role.

David Tennant, Imelda Staunton, Martin Freeman, Jeremy Piven, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey and Ashley Jensen also voice characters in the high seas adventure.

Grant’s previous crowd-pleasing films include Love Actually, Four Weddings and a Funeral, About A Boy and the Bridget Jones film franchise.
